9/11 - Dad's Birthday
On 11 September 2001, the few of us celebrated our father's birthday at the Golden Sands Hotel. My hubby Kenzu who was then having his dinner over CNN in a Mamak stall rang me to inform us about the unfortunate 9/11 event.
Fast forward to 2005, four years later. Once again we were booked to stay over at Golden Sands, both to celebrate dad's birthday and to allow Zerlynde her first experience of the sea, sun & sand. Once again, an unfortunate event struck, in the form of Chicken Pox!
So, we had to cancel our initial weekend plans. Instead, Kenzu and I bought mum and dad lunch at Mr Ho's Fine Food. It was an excellent choice. We shared among ourselves, 300 gms of crispy pork (best in Penang), 5 different types of sausages, 200 gms of bacon, a big bowl of mashed potatoes, 3 croissants with butter and marmalade, 3 glasses of teh tarik and a portion of creme brulee and strawberries. It was a fantastic meal.
The bill came up to more than RM100-00. We are fine with that. We just felt a little cheated for not having been first told that we would be charged differently for eating in. Although 200 gms of bacon only cost RM9-00++ over the counter, we were charged RM13-50++, an extra 50% for dining in. And although 100gm of sausages cost only about RM9-00++, we were charged RM18-00 for each piece of sausage (a piece of sausage cannot possibly be 200gms in weight?!).
We had a wonderful meal admittedly. We will patronice Mr Ho Fine Food again for sure. But next time, we will dine with absolutely clear knowledge of how their pricing scheme works. And next time we will leave with no hard feelings after a hearty meal.
